Dedicated followers of men’s fashion will be able to show off their sense of style on the biggest day of their lives thanks to a new store devoted to well-heeled grooms.
Chimney Formal Menswear, in Bassingbourn, is helping to ensure it’s not just blushing brides who take centre stage on their wedding day, but style-conscious men get a look in too.
Owner Sharon Cousans, who has overseen the build of the shop on the site of a former Victorian Ironworks in the High Street, said it was about time men had the chance to look their best as they stepped down the aisle.
She said: “For too long weddings have been all about the bride and her dress, with the groom’s outfit sometimes a bit of an afterthought.
“Things have changed though and now there’s plenty of men out there who are really into fashion, style and grooming.”
The shop, built beside the original 13.5-metre-high chimney that once provided the draught for the local ironworks’ furnace, has been a labour of love for Sharon and her team.
She added: “We wanted to give guys somewhere to go and find an outfit they will treasure whatever the occasion, whether it’s for a wedding, a day at the races, an awards ceremony or a graduation party.”
A launch night for friends, family and wedding industry colleagues was held on Friday, April 29, with Heidi Allen, MP for South Cambridgeshire, on hand to formally open the business.
She said: “I was delighted to be able to officially open Chimney Formal Menswear. It’s so exciting to have such a glamorous and elegant addition to our local retail economy. Sharon has worked incredibly hard to make her dreams and ideas become reality, so top hats off to her!”
Sharon has spent the past four months selecting a range of menswear to hire or buy, giving style-savvy shoppers the opportunity to choose from discerning styles and cutting-edge fabrics.
She added: “Looking good is a serious business for the modern man. It’s all about giving the guys a place where they feel confident and comfortable.”
