ABOUT SOUTH FARM
South Farm is a distinctly different venue in South Cambridgeshire for private, corporate and public occasions, weddings, family celebrations, parties, luncheons, dinners, meetings, conference facilities, trainings, shows, fairs, public events, garden visits and cookery classes. It has charm, is privately owned and run, highly flexible and quite unlike anywhere else you are likely to find. Our service is friendly, very personal and entirely memorable. Everything we do is by special arrangement.

On the Cambridgeshire to Hertfordshire border, South Farm is a beautifully restored country house, featured in The Good Gardens Guide, with an historic listed barnyard of timber framed buildings, restored and converted to provide reception, conference and function room facilities, self-catering and en suite accommodation, a private Nature Reserve and fly fishing.
For centuries a self sustaining entity, that returned more to the soil and its infrastructure than it took, South Farm fell into a derelict state with the arrival of prairie farming. Men and beasts departed, and the property was in a parlous state when we rescued it in the early 1970s, turning it into our family home. Now once again it pays for itself, generating nearly all the food we eat ourselves and supply to our guests. Its ancient buildings ring once more with voices and laughter, not of rustic peasantry now, but of party guests, whose contributions fund our restorations.
The Good Life flourishes here. We grow, rear and catch, harvest vegetables, fruit, eggs and poultry, geese and pigs from our fertile gardens and paddocks, monster trout from the lake, and game from the surrounding estate. In the kitchen Christine creates a revolving repertoire of seasonal dishes in a giddy mix of ethnic styles, Japanese and Thai from the Orient, rustic terroire cooking from Italy and Spain and the best of English Country House favourites.

James in the Vegetable Garden
It's a family concern, run by James and his father Philip and partner Christine. We enjoy sharing our little world with those in search of something different, something special and something personal. |
